This week at Collections we received some beautiful new night lights from The Porcelain Garden.
Hand crafted in the USA, these porcelain lithophane night lights are intricately designed to display stunning three dimensional images like fairies, the Buddha, dragonflies, whales, and other sea life to name a few.
The lithophane art form started back in 1827 by first carving an image in beeswax which then is used to form a plaster casting that the porcelain is molded into before being fired in an extremely hot kiln to achieve its amazing translucency. The technique is so difficult that more than half don’t survive this process, but the end result is well worth it! The people at Porcelain Garden are dedicated to preserving and continuing this ancient art form and we at Collections are happy for it because we love these night lights not only for a bedroom but they work and look great in a bathroom or dark hallway too.
